Kumasi, July 11, GNA – The Reverend D.K. Anokye, Clerk of the Asante Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has condemned “hypocrisy and pretensions” among Christians.
He said it was simply incomprehensible that people who profess to have encountered Christ in their lives and behave like angels in the church, turn to be “so deceitful, cruel and inhuman once outside it”. “Some of us are not just tyrants in our homes, making life absolutely uncomfortable for house helps, tenants and even our own spouses but also dupe and cheat on others”.
The Reverend Anokye was delivering the sermon to round off activities marking the 28th anniversary celebration of the Kumasi district Presbyterian Women’s Fellowship at the Amankwatia School Park in Kumasi on Sunday.
The theme for the anniversary was: “Behold, I Make All Things New”.
The Asante Presbytery Clerk told them that if they were to positively influence the society, it was imperative that they practised what they preached.
He said they should be spiritually and morally disciplined and distance themselves from all that was evil, reprehensible and criminal.
“It is only by doing this that we should be bringing honour and dignity to our faith and inspire others to join us in serving the living God”.
The Rev Anokye advised members of the fellowship as Christian mothers to focus their activities on helping to discourage the youth from acts of lawlessness, violence and immorality.
In a welcoming address, Mrs Docia Dsane, the President of the Fellowship, said they aimed, among other things, at helping women to live up to their responsibilities at home, in the church and community. She noted that as women there were a lot they could do to promote genuine and enduring peace, joy and harmony among families and in the society.
