Minister commends BGL for good relationship

Prestea (W/R) March 18, -GNA- Ms. Christine Churcher, Minister of Environment and Science, has commended Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL) for good company-community relationship. She said she has realized that there was a healthy interaction between the Mine and its catchment Communities.

Ms. Churcher said these during an interaction with Nana Richard Hagan, Manager Community Affairs and Sustainable Development Department, BGL, and a section of Prestea residents when she paid a four-day official visit to Wassa West District. She said, the performance was impressive saying, “hitherto, there were a lot of friction but now I realize that the improvement in the relationship is significant to such an extent that communities are taken on board in some decisions of the Mine”. The Minister said, “I have seen a lot of support in community development”.

Touching on environment, She said, the Mine was sensitive to environmental issues, adding, it has an environmental department which ensures that the mine’s operation was within the confines of the law. Earlier in a presentation, Nana Hagan gave a catalogue of developmental projects the Mine had undertaken. These included oil palm and poultry and fish farming and training of women in income generating activity.
