Minister calls on media to promote peace

Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, has called on the media in the country to promote peace ahead of Election 2012.

He said recent misguided outburst by some politicians in the media could derail national stability, and advised radio stations in particular, to stop hosting people whose actions and speeches could affect the peace of the country.

Mr Woyongo made the call at the 25 years anniversary celebration of URA Radio that disseminates information on agriculture in the local languages of people in the Upper East and Upper West Regions, in Bolgatanga.

He noted that the media landscape in the country has become competitive with the proliferation of the private media, especially the FM radio stations.

Mr Woyongo asked the media to avoid skewing news in favour of some politicians, and advocated the training of journalists to enable them to perform their duties professionally.**
