Minister calls for sustenance of new district

Drobo (B/A), Sept 22, GNA – Prof Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, the Minister of Ports, Railways and Harbours, has called on stakeholders to contribute their quota for the successful and sustainable operations of the newly created Jaman North District Assembly.

He was delivering the keynote address at the commissioning of the administration block of the assembly at Sampa, the district capital. The Minister said the creation of additional 28 districts nationwide was in fulfilment of the NPP’S manifesto.

“The NPP government will not hesitate to create more new districts whenever the need arises”, he said and appealed for peaceful, insult-free and violent-free electioneering campaigns.

Mr Johnson Ofori Asubonteng, the District Chief Executive, spoke about the advantages in creating the new districts, saying, the policy would facilitate development.

Mr Asubonteng said that was the greatest opportunity any government could offer to the people of Jaman North and called for unity and solidarity among the three paramount chiefs and the people of the district.

He said though the government had allocated an initial sum of 15 billion cedis for the smooth take off of the Assembly, in was incumbent on the people to pay their taxes to augment such support. In a speech read for him, Daasebre Kofi Sono, Omanhene of Sampa Traditional Area, commended the government for creating the district, their hearts’ desire and urged his people to reciprocate the gesture with their votes in December.

The Omanhene appealed for the tarring of the Drobo-Sampa road, provision of effective communication network and a review of the various instruments establishing the creation of the new districts “since it appears contradictory to boundary demarcations”. 22 Sept. 04
