Minister calls for law banning farming along the Volta

Akosombo (Eastern Region) 21st April, Mr. J.E. Afful, Minister of Environment. Science and Technology has called for a law banning farming along the slopes of the Volta Lake. He said farming activities of the about 94 settler communities along the area were causing erosion which could lead to siltation of the Volta dam. Mr. Afful said if immediate steps were not taken to halt the activities of the farmers the government would have to desilt the dam in the near future. The Minister was speaking when he led a task force to assess measures proposed to halt farming activities along the slopes of the Volta Lake.
