Akim Oda (E/R), Nov. 26, GNA – The Reverend Herbert Mensah, General Overseer of the Living Christ Ministry, on Tuesday attributed the general fall in the standards of education in the country, to indiscipline among students, especially in the second cycle institutions. Rev Mensah who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality, said absenteeism and complacency, were some of the traits that affected students performance. He also cited indecent dressing as among other tendencies that contributed to disturb the focus of the young ones.
Rev Mensah called for regular in-service training for teachers in the rural areas to enable them to improve on their performance, so that the country could benefit from the monies being spent on the implementation of the Free Compulsory and Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme. He mentioned lack of basic infrastructure in the schools and the staff-student ratios as factors contributing to the fall in education standards.
The General Overseer cautioned that if these problems were not addressed the situation could further deteriorate. “It is by this reason that all branches of the Ministry is addressing youth issues in the church with circumspect,” he stated.
