Minister asks sachet water producers to ensure high quality of products

Kumasi, Oct 5, GNA- Mr. Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on water producers to help expose their colleagues whose activities do not meet the safety requirements of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) and Ghana Standards Board (GSB).

Speaking at a seminar on “Quality Water Filtration” for sachet and bottled water producers in Kumasi, the Regional Minister said this was the only way they could contribute towards the protection of the lives of consumers.

He said although the Government was willing to support the industry, it behooves the producers to meet the expectations of consumers.

“Some producers operate under woefully unhygienic conditions and contaminate the produce before they are even packaged to the consuming public”, he said.

The Regional Minister said the government’s policy on private sector development does not imply that people should play on the ignorance of their fellow citizens to satisfy their inordinate ambition of getting rich.

“People must understand that the nation can develop only with healthy citizens, but with such attitudes of such unscrupulous individuals in the system, the development of the nation will be held in abeyance”, he said.
