MInister ask young ladies to emulate women leaders

Kumasi, Aug 6, GNA – Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Women and Children’s Affairs, has called on young girls to emulate women leaders in the country by working hard.

She said immoral behaviour was one of the biggest stumbling blocks to their progress hence they should strive to desist from such acts.

The Minister said this in a speech read for her at the re-launch of girl-child education fund to help needy but brilliant students of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Kumasi at the weekend. Hajia Mahama appealed to young girls to be submissive to the teachings of their mothers in order to become responsible women in future.

She appealed to the girls to take advantage of the government’s educational policies and go to school so as to be empowered socially, economically as well as politically and be part of decision-making in the country.

Speaking on the theme, “On Becoming a Lady of Power”, Mrs Margaret Anti, Director of the Women/Children’s Ministries of the Central Ghana Conference of the Church, said the youth had become corrupt based on the neglect of some leaders in the country. She said it was because of this that Christian Women’s Ministries had to relate to young girls who are vulnerable.

Mrs Anti said extra classes for girls before and after school hours, at weekends and vacation deprived girls from being exposed to home and practical training hence they become bad wives that sometimes accounted for the high rate of divorce.
