Minister ask workers to be disciplined

Koforidua, May 1, GNA – Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, has called on workers to be disciplined, eschew drunkenness, drug abuse, unproductive discussions, and other unproductive activities during working hours. He asked workers to be guided by the principles of discipline, loyalty, selflessness, justice, accountability, fairness, integrity, honesty and transparency towards national development. Dr Apea-Kubi was speaking at the Eastern Regional May Day parade at the Jackson’s Park in Koforidua on Sunday. The celebration was under the theme: 93Decent work for sustainable economic development”.

Dr Apea-Kubi commended workers their efforts to ensure the steady growth and development of the nation, which included the successful running of both the public and private sectors. He said that because was aware that the development of every nation hinged on its human resource, it has over the years supported the various labour forces in the country to unite under the Trade Union Congress (TUC), through which they could express their views. Dr Apea-Kubi asked the TUC to use dialogue in safeguarding the welfare of their members because the current Government was ready to dialogue with workers instead confrontations. He said that Government was making conscious efforts to institute capacity building programmes including in-service training and refresher courses for workers.

Dr Apea-Kubi said Government had the welfare of workers at heart and would do everything possible to ensure that they received adequate remuneration. Some workers were awarded for their hard work and contribution to national development. 1 May 11
