Bolgatanga, Sept. 14, GNA – School children in the Upper East Region were on Tuesday, the first day at school, advised to make it a habit to attend school regularly and take their studies seriously to attain high academic laurels.
Mr Mark Woyongo, the Upper East Regional Minister, said this when he and Mrs Lucy Awuni, Deputy Regional Minister, officials of UNICEF, AfriKids and the Ghana Education Service visited three schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality to welcome pupils to school.
The visit was part of the 93My First Day at School” programme. Mr Woyongo said the BECE performance in the region was not encouraging and appealed to parents, teachers and students to team up and work harder.
Mrs Agnes Atagabe, Acting Regional Director, Ghana Education Service (GES), appealed to the teachers to re strategize to improve the standard of education.
At Kulbia Primary School in Sumbrungu, the school had registered 20 girls and 15 boys for primary one and 27 boys and 30 girls for kindergarten one.
Mr Douglas Abbasey, an Information Technology teacher of the school, appealed to GES to support the school with computers to facilitate teaching and learning.
At the St. Clement Primary school, the children received the team with drumming and dancing. The School registered 21 boys and 21 girls.
The Kalbeo Tindonsobilgo Primary and Junior High schools received 15 lap top computers donated by GES, together with 54 uniforms, some slates and cups.
The school had also registered 24 boys and 25 girls for primary one.
