Huni-Valley (W/R), Aug. 21, GNA- A four-classroom block valued at 209 million cedis donated by the Damang Mine of Goldfields Ghana Limited, was inaugurated at Huni-Valley in the Western Region. In an address read for him, Mr Emmanuel Kwesi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, called on organizations and individuals who could afford, to assist the district in terms developments.
Mr Ayensu appealed to the pupils to take their studies seriously. “This is the time for you to prepare adequately to take up the challenges ahead of you. The success and failures in the future would depend on how serious you are today”, he said.
He said current statistics of HIV/AIDS indicates that its prevalence rate among the youth is very alarming and advised the children not to allow themselves to be destroyed by the deadly disease. Nana Kwabena Osei Nketsia, Wassa West District director of education said a survey conducted in the district showed that, many parents preferred their children to go to private schools rather than public ones. “This shows that confidence of parents in public schools is waning,” he said.
Mr Charles Taschereau, acting General Manager of Damang Mine said the company has set up a scholarship fund to help brilliant children to pursue their education to tertiary level.
