The Juaso Circuit Court presided over by Mr Alex Obeng Asante has ordered that an illegal miner standing trial over sexual abuse of an imbecile should be held in prison custody.
Awudu Nasiru, 35, was reportedly caught right in the act of having sex with the victim at Nobewam in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence and would make his next court appearance today.
Police Chief Inspector Joseph Obeng said the victim lives with her family in a house owned by Nasiru’s father.
The parents of the girl are farmers and always left her behind in the house whenever they went to the farm and the accused would seize the opportunity to sexually abuse her.
He, however, run out of luck on February 17, as a witness in the case, who had gone to the house to look for the victim’s parents caught him red-handed and raised the alarm.
Nasiru managed to slip through but he was later arrested and handed over to the police.
