Miner fined for hiding gold in trousers

Tarkwa, Oct. 19, GNA – A Tarkwa circuit court, on Tuesday, fined one James Boakye, a miner, an amount of GHC 3000 or in default, two years imprisonment, for hiding three pieces of gold ore in a pair of trousers.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that, on October 10 this year, at about 16:45 hours, the accused, who is a contract worker of the Mines Survey Department, closed from work and while being searched at the last security gate, the three pieces of gold ore were found in his possession.

The gold ore was concealed in a black polythene bag and wrapped inside the pockets of a trouser, which was also hidden in another plastic bag he was holding.

Inspector Tawiah said when the gold ore was weighed, it was valued at GHC1,748
