Milo marathon winner honoured

SOLIM Botsyor, Milo Marathon teenage sensation, was on Wednesday honoured by the Jasikan District Assembly and the Ghana Education Service (GES) respectively for “catapulting the image of the district in to fame”.

Botsyor, a class six pupil, was among 88 recipients of prizes at the district’s 2001 and 2002 Best Teacher, Non-Teaching Staff, Students and Pupils awards day at Kute, an hour-and-a-half’s drive from Jasikan.

Botsyor won the National Milo Marathon Junior Division in Accra on September 14, 2001, and got a computer, its accessories, Milo products and a cash prize of 600,000 cedis.

She also won the Milo Marathon on September 14, last year, beating a field of boys as well.

The young girl is a winner of three Gold Medals in Cross Country, 1,500 and 5,000 metres at the National Basic School’s Inter-Regional Sports Festival 2001 and 2002. She received a running boat for her feat.
