Mills sets up Policy Unit

Accra, June 17, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills has set up a Policy Unit at the Presidency headed by Vice-President John Dramani Mahama to work towards the attainment of the goals of the Government. A statement signed by Mr Mahama Ayariga, Presidential Spokesperson, said the Evaluation and Oversight Wing of the Policy Unit was headed by Dr. Tony Aidoo, Deputy Defence Minister under the previous NDC administration.

It said it would assess the performance of key Government functionaries as they related to the broader national strategic policy objectives, including the implementation of Cabinet decisions and International Treaties and Conventions ratified by Ghana. The office will monitor, evaluate and advise on the implementation of Government policies.

The statement said the Manifesto Implementation Wing of the Policy Unit is headed by Dr. (Mrs.) Christine Amoako-Nuamah, a cabinet minister under the previous NDC government.

“It will be responsible for ensuring the coordination and implementation of the policies, programmes and projects contained in the 2008 Manifesto of the NDC as well as platform pledges and promises made by President Mills and other leading members of the Party during the 2008 electioneering campaign,” the statement said. 17 June 09
