Mills says he will react to elections later

Accra, Dec 10, GNA – Prof John Atta Mills, the defeated presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said on Friday that he would make his views known in respect of the conduct and outcome of the elections after the final results had been declared. A statement signed by his Communications Director, Mr Rojo Mettle-Nunoo, said Prof Mills ”has noted the declaration of provisional results of the December 7, 2004 elections by the Electoral Commission.”

”Significantly, the declaration of the Electoral Commission was preceded by a press conference by the NPP at which the NPP Campaign Manager and other ministers representing the NPP, in an unprecedented move, declared President J.A. Kufuor the winner of the presidential election,” it said.

Prof Mills commended all Ghanaians on their participation in the electoral process but expressed concern about the reported acts of intimidation and violence against NDC supporters. He urged NDC supporters to remain calm and exercise restraint ” in the face of numerous reported cases unprovoked intimidation, harassment and arrest of party members and candidates.”
