Mills launches $120m N/R Rural Electrification Project

Kpakorili (N/R), April 29, GNA – President John Atta Mills has launc= hed a 120-million US dollar Northern Region Rural Electrification Project at Kpakorili in the Yendi Municipality.

The project, to be completed within four years, is to connect 500 rura= l communities to the national electricity grid. When completed, it will increase the number of rural communities connected to the national electricity grid in the Northern Region to over 6= 0 per cent, up from the current level of less than 40 per cent coverage. President Mills said the project was to transform the economies of the beneficiary communities and open them up for an accelerated development. He told the people, saying 93This is the beginning of things to come= ” assuring them that 93we have you in mind”.

He charged contractors working on the project to execute it within schedule. Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister assured the peopl= e that the Government would continue to deliver on its promises to bring relief to Ghanaians. The Chief of Kpakorili, through a spokesperson, thanked the Government for the project and appealed also to the President to provide the area with an irrigation facility to ensure an all-year-round agricultural production.
