Mills given ‘Lifetime Africa Achievement Award’

Ghana’s former President, the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills has once again been honoured posthumously for his excellence in leadership and selfless devotion to service which benefited Ghana and Africa.

Last September, The Institute of International Education (IIE), one of the world’s largest and most experienced higher education and training organizations, posthumously honoured the late President, for being a truly exceptional leader.

In Nairobi, Kenya, over the weekend, the “Lifetime Africa Achievement Award”, which recognizes excellence in Democratic Governance and Development in Africa, was conferred on late Prof. Mills at a ceremony which was attended by Kenyan President, Mwai Kibaki and other high profiled Africans.

The late President Mills’ efforts at ensuring national cohesion and stability in Ghana earned him the prestigious Prize.

Former First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Ernestina Naadu Mills, wife of the former Ghanaian President, received the award on behalf of her late husband.

While receiving the award, she reminded the gathering of the values and principles the late President eschewed whilst alive and indicated that the continent of Africa can only take its rightful place in the global economy when peace is seen as a pre-requisite for any meaningful development.

Dr. (Mrs.) Naadu Mills added that “the success story of Ghana’s elections on December 7, was possible because President Mills represented peace, a virtue he left behind for the people of Ghana.”

She added that “he lived his life serving his people, he treated every small job as a big job and every big job as a small job”.

The former First Lady, and her delegation are expected back home in Accra on Monday.
