Mills denies storming out of Nayiri’s funeral

Accra, Jan. 23, GNA – Professor John Evans Atta Mills, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flag Bearer, on Friday denied media reports that he stormed out of the funeral of Na Gamni Mahamdu Abdulai, Paramount Chief of Mamprugu, at Nalerigu in protest over shabby treatment.

“There is no truth in that claim,” Prof. Mills said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

“It was most wicked for anyone to think that I Prof. Mills left the funeral in anger,” he said.

Professor Mills explained that the NDC delegation he led to Nalerigu on Tuesday spent considerable time at the funeral and paid its respects in accordance with tradition.

He said: “We were there during the entire morning and were told that the Vice-President would arrive at about 12 mid-day.

“We then told the elders that we were scheduled to attend another funeral of a prominent member of our party and, therefore, could not wait till the Vice-President arrived.

“This, indeed is what actually happened and we should not read any political motives into it.”
