The General Overseer of the Holy Hill Chapel worldwide, Prophet Godwin Sarfo Annan, has expressed reservation about academic institutions milking the youth under the disguise of sale of application forms.
He noted every year these academic institutions release thousands of application forms for applicants to buy when they know very well that very few vacancies exist.
Speaking to a section of the media in Tamale, Prophet Sarfo Annan questioned why the various academic and training institutions in the country take huge sums of monies from prospective students and trainees and yet do not admit them.
“If an applicant does not meet admission requirements or there are no vacancies for them, why take monies from them”, he asked, adding that he may consider taking the matter to court for clarification.
The General Overseer noted that Polytechnics, Nursing Colleges, Colleges of Education, Universities, and even security agencies; the army, prison service, police are cheating the Ghanaian youth who are hungry for academic achievements, or professional training through the sale of application forms.
Prophet Sarfo Annan, a youth advocate, lamented that these state institutions are unduely taking application form fees, interview fees, and result confirmation fees in the name of internally generated fund (IGF)
“If these state institutions have not provided any services to the applicants, why should they make money out of them? he asked.
He suggested that academic institutions should take fees for their applications forms only when the applicant has been admitted. “If applicants do not meet requirements for admission, let us refund their monies”, he said.
Most Ghanaian youth have been purchasing various application from academic and professional institutions with the hope of gaining admission to further their education or professional training. But most of these applicants have had their hopes dashed as they either do not meet the requirements for entry or there are limited vacancies.
Some of these youth are left frustrated in life as they do not know when they would qualify for further studies or when there would be enough vacancies to accommodate them in the various academic institutions of their choice.
