The minority’s spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa has advocated for military intervention to resolve the slave trade crises in Libya.
According to the North Tongu legislator, a raid in the slavery camps in Libya will salvage the worrying development.
Mr. Ablakwa noted that the inability of AU to be proactive on the current development is worrying.
He has therefore proposed a military intervention to save the inmates at the various slave camps in the country.
“we need to get in there to rescue these African migrants. The CNN documentary reveals that there are nine centers…nine detention camps. Those detention camps have to be raided and those African migrants have to be rescued immediately,” he stated.
It has come to light that hundreds of Africans are being auctioned in modern day slave markets in Libya for $400 per person as Libya is the main transit hub for illegal immigrants and refugees seeking to reach Europe.
The ongoing act has been widely condemned across the world with a call on the African Union to step in to put an end to the menace.
Meanwhile President Akufo Addo has condemned the Libyan authorities for the reintroduction of slave trade.
In facebook post the president expressed his disappointment on the practice which is happening to members of the African Union of which Libya is a member.
”The current slave auctions of Africans in Libya are not only gross and scandalous abuses of human rights, but are also mockeries of the alleged solidarity of African nations grouped in the African Union (AU), of which Libya is a member,” he wrote.
