Military Hospital takes over treatment of Marku

Accra, April 11, GNA – The 37 Military Hospital on Tuesday admitted Marku Narh, the little girl, who fell into hot oil, taking her from the Tema General Hospital, where she was on admission.

Marku, who suffered severe burns on the face and on both hands over a month ago, has been admitted at the Yaa Asantewaah Ward. Briefing newsmen on the take-over, Group Captain Joseph Nii Laryea, a Surgeon in-charge of Field Medical Services at the 37 Military Hospital, said the hospital was directed by the Ministry of Defence “to assess the condition and assume management of the girl”.

He said this was done in collaboration with authorities of the Tema General Hospital and Marku’s relations. Group Captain Laryea said Marku would receive treatment until an evaluation is done for plastic surgery.

He said a team of renowned surgeons to visit the hospital for a workshop will do this. “All expenses will be borne by the ministry. Her chances of full recovery are brighter”.

Lydia Nartey, a cousin and the guardian, denied earlier media reports that Marku was house help and was deliberately hurt. She said Marku was sleeping on a bench when she fell into the hot oil just behind. “I was woken up from sleep when the accident occurred”.

Marku on her new sick bed confirmed what Lydia had said and asked for prayers from the public. Dr. Brimpong Anku, a surgeon at the Tema General Hospital, endorsed the release permit.
