Military deployed to Afram plains after residents, Fulanis clash

There is uneasy calm in the Afram Plain South district of the Eastern region following violent clashes between residents and Fulani herdsmen.

The regional Security Council has deployed a detachment of armed military and police personnel to the area to sustain the fragile peace after the hostilities broke out in the Dadokore township.

It is unclear what led to the disturbances but reports suggest that the residents are protesting the destruction of their farmlands and other properties by the herdsmen and their cattle.

Speaking to Starr News on the development, the Eastern regional Public Relations officer of the Ghana Police service, ASP Nketia Yeboah, said the security personnel will remain in the community until absolute calm is restored.

Meanwhile, the Eastern regional Minister, Mavis Ama Frempong is scheduled to address a news conference on the matter later today.
