Toase (Ash), Jan 13, GNA- A private midwife has for the past five years been offering free medical treatment to travellers, women traders and hawkers at the Kumasi Kejetia terminal.
Mrs Agatha Amoateng-Boahen, who runs the Maranatha Maternity Clinic at Asuoyeboa, a suburb of Kumasi, said she initiated the outreach clinic to assist people at Kejetia.
She said it was pathetic to see travellers, women traders and hawkers some of them with their children strapped on their backs selling in the scorching sun.
Some fall sick in the process but find difficulty in getting medical attention at Kejetia since there is no clinic there. This touched me so I decided to undertake the outreach clinic to help the people.
Mrs Amoateng-Boahen was speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Toase near Nkawie on her outreach programme during the award ceremony for Atwima district health workers and personally donated a computer and accessories valued at five million cedis to the award winner from the Asuofua clinic.
The midwife said besides the treatment, she offers free drugs from her clinic, she educates the women on reproductive health, counsels them on family planning, HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, tuberculosis and other communicable diseases.
She said health delivery should not be the responsibility of government alone but a responsibility that must be shared by all.
