Accra, Sept 15, GNA – Dr Sam Adjei, the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, on Friday called on managers of the Mutual Health Organisations (MHOs) not to politicise their services but consider it a social service delivery to members of their communities. He said members should bury differences they had with their leaders and donors and to be aware of the importance of their role in making the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) a success.
Dr Adjei made the call in Accra when he opened a two-day workshop for managers and chairmen of governing boards of various health insurance Schemes throughout the country.
It was organised by the Network of Mutual Health Organisation of Ghana (GNEMHO), promoters of the MHOs in the country. He appealed to members to monitor the organisation periodically and to make sure that funds were used for their purposes. ”The funds for the programme belong to the people and not for your pockets”, he said and emphasised that their duty was to support the scheme in the interest of the people.
Mr John K. Pratt, President of GNEMHO, said participants would discuss challenges facing the scheme, monitoring checklist, treat relevant portions of the Act 650 and legislative instrument 1809. Proposals on the conditions of service and salaries for management staff and board members will also be discussed. He said GNEMHO was to serve as a mouthpiece of the schemes in dealing with the government and other stakeholders to allow the free flow and effective interpersonal communication between the government and its stakeholders.
