Mfatsipim cries for infrastructure expansion

The headmaster of Mfantsipim Senior High School (SHS), Manfred Barton Oduro, has made a clarion call on government to expand its infrastructure in order to promote efficient teaching and learning at the school.

The school has suffered infrastructural problems including its dining hall expansion project which has remained uncompleted since 2008.

This has compelled the school to reduce intake by over 40 per cent after the commencement of government’s flagship Free SHS policy.

Speaking to the media after a visit by the Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, Minister of Special Development Initiative, Hawa Koomson, and the Regional Education Director, David Afram, the headmaster said their inability to enrol more students this academic year was due to infrastructural challenges.

“The school declared 600 vacancies ahead of the Free SHS policy however, we have admitted 661 so far due to our commitment towards the success of the programme. We admitted more students despite the challenges,” he said.

The assistant headmaster, Alexander Raymond Buabin, maintained that their intention to decongest the school was due to the recommendation from Interim Management Committee (IMC) and Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church to limit admission to 600 students for three consecutive years in order to enhance quality education.

Class News’ Maxwell Attah reported that 1057 students completed Mfantsipim SHS during 2016/2017 academic year however, 661 pupils enrolled during 2017/2018 academic year.
