Saltpond (C/R), Aug. 26, GNA – The District Chief Executive for Mfantseman, Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur has appealed to the Ghana Education Service to reconsider its decision to hold Science, Technology and Mathematics Education (STME) clinics at the regional headquarters instead of in the districts.
Mr Quainoo-Arthur said the awareness which the STME, introduced to whip-up students interest, especially girls in science and mathematics had generated when the clinics were being held in the districts was great and added that the purpose would be defeated when the clinics were held at the regional capitals alone.
The DCE was commenting on a report submitted by Miss Vivian Etroo, District Director of Education to a mid-year review meeting of heads of departments at Saltpond.
In the report, Miss Etroo said only 30 students were selected from the district to participate in the clinic held at Cape Coast last year as against 110 students when the district organised its own clinic at Saltpond the previous year.
Mr Quainoo-Arthur said it was to encourage more students from the District to participate in the clinic that was why the Assembly has been sponsoring the event and cautioned that it might decide to withdraw the sponsorship if the clinic would no longer be held in the District. He suggested to communities to make farms to support the school feeding programme to make the food richer.
Mr Yaw Adu Asamoah, District Co-ordinating Director, announced plans to hook some of the departments on to the Internet. He urged the heads to support the Assembly in its revenue mobilisation drive.
Mrs Felicia Ansah-Amprofi, Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture said her outfit had launched an anti-rabies campaign in the communities and appealed to assembly members and chiefs to help to make the exercise a success.
Mr Samuel Adabo, District Fire Officer appealed to departments that dealt with building plans to enforce the law, which enjoined estate developer to submit building plans to the Ghana National Fire Service for advice on fire precaution before they were endorsed.
