Mfantseman Assembly holds first ordinary sitting

The Mfantseman District Assembly has granted 582 million cedis as loans to farmers and fishermen under the Emergency Social Relief Programme (ESRP).

It has also granted 325,203,528 cedis to groups and individuals under the Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF).

Mr Kofi Wilson, the District Chief Executive (DCE) announced at the first ordinary session of the assembly at Saltpond in the Central Region.

Mr Wilson said the assembly has spend 138 million cedis as scholarship to students in teacher training colleges and other tertiary institutions.

He expressed disappointment about poor performance of the assembly in revenue generation saying that out of the projected revenue of 547 million cedis for last year, only 335.2 million cedis was collected.

He advised members of the assembly to assist their unit committee members to generate revenue for the assembly.

On projects, the DCE said the assembly awarded 13 projects on contract last year and said work on them had reached advanced stage of completion.

He said nine European Union (EU) micro projects were completed and commissioned in the district last year and said seven others are to be undertaken under phase two of the programme.

He appealed to the beneficiary communities to rekindle their communal spirit to enable them to complete the projects on schedule.

Mr Frank Neequaye, the Presiding Member announced that plans had reached advanced stage for establishment Mfantseman Enterprises, a limited liability company to support the assembly in revenue generation.
