Metro Mass workers protest against management

Workers of the Metro Mass Transit Limited on Tuesday April 18 demonstrated against leadership of the company at its Kaneshie office in Accra.

According to the workers, the management had failed to account for some monies meant for their upkeep and maintenance of the buses. This situation, they said, had grounded most of their buses.

A worker who spoke in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM said: “We are not really happy with how the management is treating the workers and how they are managing the company. As we speak, there are some monies that management cannot account for, about GHS500,000 belonging to the company that they cannot account for.

“We also do not trust our union leaders because they are not working in our interest. If they don’t want to work in our interest, then we will take up the matter ourselves and deal with it,” another worker told Accra News reporter Nana Amoako Gyampah in an interaction.

Another worker said: “The salary we take home is nothing to write home about. If you are sick and unable to go to work, they deduct it from your pay. The union that we rely on is also not helping us at all.”
