Methodist would never endorse homosexuality – Bishop

Most Reverend Titus Kofi Awotwi Pratt, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, has declared that the Church would never endorse the practice of homosexuality because it was inconsistent with biblical teachings.

Homosexuality was alien to the cultural orientation of Ghanaians and Africans in general, he pointed out, and stressed therefore that the society, individuals and groups must kick against it.

Most Rev. Pratt made the declaration during the inauguration of the Goaso Diocese of the Methodist Church on Sunday at Goaso in the Asunafo North Municipality.

This brings to 18 the number of Dioceses of the Church in the country.

The occasion was also used to induct Right Rev. Oswald Samuel Kwadwo Boakye as the first Bishop of the Diocese, and Mrs. Elizabeth Owusu as the first Diocesan Lay Chairperson.

Most Rev. Pratt tasked the newly-inducted Bishop and the Lay Chairperson to always stand for the truth, put their trust in the Lord, and be guided by the Spirit of God at all times.

The Presiding Bishop further asked all Methodists to lead exemplary lives to the glory of God.

Among the personalities who witnessed the ceremony were the Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, and the immediate-past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, Ghana, Most Rev. Michael Kehinde Stephen, the Archbishop of the Ibadan State of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, and Rev. Joseph Ntombura who oversees the Methodist Church in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
