Methodist laity takes stock of activities

The Kumasi Diocesan Lay Movement of the Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has held its third biennial general meeting in Kumasi, with a call on the laity to tackle contemporary development issues.

Mr. Kwasi Atta-Antwi, the Lay Chairman, urged the laity to campaign against environmental degradation, the declining sanitary conditions, recurring outbreak of communicable diseases, indiscipline amongst the youth and corruption.

The Church’s main responsibility, he said, was to effect positive changes in the society, calling on members to discharge their duties with commitment.

The meeting aimed at serving as a platform for the Lay Movement to assess its performance over the years and also seek new direction to sustain its growth within the context of the church’s general tenets and principles.

“Teaching for Effective Christian Formation – the Lay Factor,” was the theme.

Mr. Atta-Antwi said the laity would not relent in its efforts to supporting the church to complete on-going projects structured to bolster the financial base of the Church.

He advised the members to be active in the activities of the laity.

The Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, the Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, appealed to the laity to ensure that all their operations were church-inclined.

This, he said, was the only way to advance Methodism and the general welfare of the people.
