Methodist Church elects new officers

Sekondi, Aug. 29 GNA – The Right Reverend Kow B. Egyir, outgoing Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church was on Saturday elected as the new administrative bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana. He was elected unopposed and replaces The Right Reverend Albert Ofoe Wright, who has completed his three year tenure of office. Mr. James A. A. Abadoo Brew, outgoing Lay Movement Chairman of the Sekondi Diocese was also elected the National Lay President of the Church and assumes duty on October 1, 2005.

He polled 137 votes to defeat his only challenger who had 107 votes. Thirteen other lay chairmen who were elected by their various dioceses were also confirmed and would all assume duty on October 1, 2004.

The conference commended the outgoing Lay Chairmen for their dedicated services to the church and urged them to continue to assist in the development of their respective societies.
