Methodist church awards scholarship to forty students

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Sept. 6, GNA – The Methodist Church Ghana has announced a 100 million-cedi scholarship package for some 40 brilliant but needy students of the church nationwide.

The Presiding Bishop of the Church, Most Rev. Dr. Robert Aboagye Mensah announced this at a thanksgiving service of the church at Breman Asikuma on Sunday.

Bishop Aboagye Mensah appealed to Ghanaians to avoid ethnocentrism and come together as one people to improve the socio-economic development of the country.

He commended the government for its paying attention to education and appealed to other stakeholders to initiate policies that would further enhance the success of the Free Compulsory Basic Education. Professor Kwesi Adam, Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, urged the beneficiary students to take advantage of the package and learn to enhance their proficiency, especially in the English language.

He advised them to shun drugs and other negative tendencies that could undermine their education.
