Methodist Church against homosexuality

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Titus Kofi Awotwi Pratt, has said the Methodist Church would never endorse homosexuality because the practice is inconsistent with biblical teachings.

In addition, he said homosexuality is alien to the cultural orientation of Ghanaians and Africans as a whole, and so people must kick against it.

The Most Rev Awotwi Pratt was speaking at Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region during the inauguration of the Goaso Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana. This brings to 18 the number of dioceses of the Church in the connexion.

The occasion was also used to induct Right Rev Oswald Samuel Kwadwo Boakye as the first Bishop of the diocese and Mrs Elizabeth Owusu as the Diocesan Lay Chairperson.

The Presiding Bishop of the church tasked the new Bishop and the Lay Chairperson to always stand for the truth, put their trust in the Lord and be guided by the spirit of God at all times.

The Most Rev Awotwi Pratt further asked all Methodists to lead exemplary lives to the glory of God.

Among those who witnessed the ceremony were the Chairman of the National Peace Council and the immediate-past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Kwaku Asante; the Arch-Bishop of the Ibadan State of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Most Rev Michael Kehinde Stephen; and Rev Joseph Ntombura who oversees the Methodist Church in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
