Metal bridge linking western corridor to Cote d’Ivoire in danger

Ewusie Joo (W/R), March 16, GNA 97 The steel bridge linking the western corridor to Cote d’Ivoire and the northern part of the Western Region is in danger of collapsing.

The Western Regional Director of the Roads and Highways, Mr. Joseph Kodwo Nsia, told the GNA in an interview that some criminals had removed the bolts and nuts that held the metal bridge together. He said the bridge is of huge economic value to the region and the country since goods from the northern parts of the region such as cocoa, bauxite, gold, manganese and palm nuts to the Takoradi port as well as goods from the Ivory Coast pass on the bridge. Mr. Nsia said the Bridge Maintenance Unit of the Roads and Highways based in Kukruantumi in the Eastern Region had been informed about the situation.

He appealed to the security agencies and the Ewusie Joo community to be vigilant to apprehend such evil perpetrators. Mr Nsia urged scrap dealers to exhibit patriotism by not buying the stolen parts of the bridge but to report them to the police.
