Messiah Vocational and Technical Centre to be closed down

Mfensi (Ash), July 5, GNA – The Messiah Vocational and Technical Training Centre at Mfensi in the Atwima District of the Ashanti Region is been threatened with closure due to arrears in school fees and unpaid bills amounting to 40 million cedis.

Evangelist Yaw Asante, Founder and Director of the Centre, who announced this at the weekend, said although a new Board of Governors was tasked to find solutions to the problems of the Centre, “we are yet to see any improvement and we are left with no option than to close down the Centre and concentrate on other viable ventures”.

He was speaking at the first graduation of the School that turned out 25 trainees who undertook a three-month skills training under the national Skills Training and Employable Programme (STEP). The graduates undertook courses in batik, tie and dye and soap production.

Evangelist Asante appealed for public support to help run the Centre.

Dr Sam Afraid, a Senior Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), urged the graduates to go into partnership with private enterprises to enhance their skills. Mr Charles Deborah, the Atwima District Chief Executive, donated five million cedis on behalf of the Assembly for the upkeep of the students.
