MES should be focal point for national development – Churcher

Accra, Feb. 21, GNA – Ms Christine Churcher, Minister of Environment and Science, on Monday said with the right policies, approaches and determination the Ministry would attain its rightful position as the focal point for national development. She said this when she addressed Departmental Heads and staff of the Ministry in Accra.

She said it was a fact that science held the key to nations’ development adding; “with commitment and dedication, the Ministry will open up to all homes with environmental consciousness”.

Ms Churcher said she was determined to let the world to know that issues of the environment and science were the major determinants in the fight against poverty and improvement of living standards everywhere. She called for cooperation, hard work and loyalty from the staff of the Ministry so that together they could make the necessary impact and succeed in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations.

“The Ministry is unique in the sense that it has that responsibility for the sustainable development of the country,” Mr Edward Osei Nsenkyire, Chief Director of the Ministry said.

Mr Moses Ajaab, Head of Human Resource Management and Development, on behalf of the staff pledged their preparedness and readiness to work for the success of the Ministry and the country at large.

Ms Churcher, until her appointment, was the Minister of State in Charge of Basic, Secondary and Girl Child Education.
