Memorial service for the late Bishop Owusu

Sunyani(B/A), Dec. 29, GNA – Most Reverend Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, Catholic Bishop of Sunyani Diocese on Friday urged Christians to be disciplined and committed to the work of God to enhance the growth of Christianity.

He said since Christians were regarded as role models in society, there was the need for them to be disciplined and humble to avoid exposing the religion to ridicule and its image into disrepute.

Bishop Gyamfi was preaching at a memorial service in Sunyani for the late Bishop James Kwadwo Owusu of the diocese who died in a motor accident at Potroase, near Kyebi in the Eastern Region on December 28, 2001.

The service coincided with the launching of the biography of the late Bishop Owusu dubbed 93The Silent Giver=94, which highlights some of his good works.

Bishop Gyamfi explained that Jesus Christ had entrusted his Kingdom to Christians to build and maintain it, stressing the need for them to support each other, stay focused and be guided by Biblical principles. He paid a glowing tribute to the late Bishop Owusu and described him as a humble and tolerant figure during his reign.

Bishop Gyamfi urged Christian leaders to emulate the deceased for the growth and development of their churches.

Father Joseph Assuah, author of the biography said Christianity was fraught with temptations and encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in all their endeavours.

He noted that the late Bishop Owusu was very committed to his priesthood which made him achieve success in evangelism. The first five copies of the biography were sold for 50 million cedis.
