Melcom manager laid to rest

It was all wailing when one of the victims of the Achimota Melcom building disaster was buried in Kumasi last Saturday.

Gerald Osei Akoto, 39, who was the Manager at the Achimota branch of the company, was among the 14 that crushed to death when the company’s rented building collapsed.

Officials of the company, relatives and friends could not hold back their tears as the mortal remains of the deceased were laid in state at the family house at Kwadaso Estate.

Various tributes paid in the memory of Akoto described him as humble, honest and God-fearing.

A joint Managing Director of Melcom Ghana limited, Mr. Manesh Helwane, who led the team from the company to the funeral, said Akoto was a hardworking young man who played his part in advancing the company’s progress.

He told The Mirror that, “I feel sad today for the unfortunate incident that led to this and other deaths.”

Mr. Helwane said the company did everything possible toe sure the success of the funeral.

He stated that the company would continue to put in measures to protect its workers.

The deceased left behind a wife and three children.
