The Melcom Care Foundation, humanitarian wing of the Melcom Group of Companies on Wednesday donated Korean zonda ambulance vehicle to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, as part of its cooperate social responsibility.
Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo, Director of Communications of the Melcom Group of Companies, said the ambulance, GY 1697 – 13 which cost $33,000.00 was a gift to mark the birthday of the Chairman of the Melcom Group of Companies, Mr. Baghwan Ramchand Kubhchandani.
He said the donation was also to honour the hard working doctors, nurses and other staff of the Hospital for their relentless efforts in taking care of the hundreds of sick people who attend the Hospital daily.
He said it was also to show their gratitude to all Ghanaians for their support during the Achimota Melcom rented building tragedy of November 07, 2012.
Mr. Avenorgbo explained that Melcom Care Foundation is engaged in education sponsorship for brilliant but needy children of school going age, adding that, the Foundation supports the building of school blocks and renovation of existing school buildings at the basic level and provides funding for health care by settling medical bills of the needy.
“This year we sponsored the distribution of thousands of exercise books to students in Tertiary Institutions,” he said.
Mr. Ramesh Sadhwani, Joint Managing Director of the Melcom Group of Company advised the Hospital authorities to put the ambulance to good use.
Receiving the ambulance on behalf of the Hospital, Vice Admiral Matthew Quarshie, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces said it was with a deep sense of humility and gratitude that he was accepting the donation. “This ambulance will go a long way to serve so many people, we want to say a very big thank you,” he said.
“In supporting the Hospital you are supporting the poor and the needy people”. The CDS said they were looking for partnership from cooperate entities and he further commended Melcom Group of Companies for setting itself to do good for the people.
Colonel Ralph Ametepi, Commander of the 37 Military Hospital witnessed the ceremony.
