Medical team treats patients at Jasikan

Jasikan (V/R), Oct. 18, GNA – Fifty people, suffering from various ailments, were at the weekend operated upon at the Jasikan District Hospital by a medical team from Christ Leads Medical Services from Tema. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the exercise Dr Christian Amenuveve, a Fellow of West African

College of Surgeons and leader of the team, said Christ Leads Medical Services was a Christian group with the aim of bringing specialist medical services to the doorsteps of the rural people at an affordable fee.

He said it was also aimed at educating the rural folks on issues like HIV/AIDS and other medical conditions.

Dr Amenuveve said that the medical team comprised of specialists from Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Trust Hospital, and La General Hospital, 37 Military Hospital and Alpha Medical Centre.

Dr Amenuveve said the bulk of the patients were women with fibroid and goitre topping the list. They also treated a few urine retention and hernia cases that dominated their earlier visit to the hospital. He said the team started offering specialist surgery at private and government health institutions six years ago and they had visited Greater Accra, Volta, Western and Upper East regions. Dr Amenuveve appealed for sponsorship to enable the team to operate in several communities in the country.

He said the team has planed to establish a medical mission-training centre to train medical personnel and other paramedics to enable them provide outreach services.

Dr Samuel Abudey, District Director of Health Services and acting Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said such outreach medical service was important to those in the rural areas who cannot afford to pay fees charged at the hospitals.

He said the hospital has a similar arrangement with Sight Savers at Hohoe who came to screen people with eye problems and also the Regional Diabetes Unit at Ho also undertakes monthly examinations at the hospital to check the sugar levels of patients.
