Winneba (C/R) Feb 28 GNA- The Medical Superintendent of the Winneba Government Hospital, Dr Hercules France has expressed concern about the late arrival of some critically ill people to the hospital, which makes it impossible for their lives to be saved.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Winneba on Monday, Dr France said the medical personnel had to make strenuous efforts to treat such patients, many of whom die due to their late arrival to the hospital. He cited a case on February 21, this year, when a woman was rush late to the hospital with placenta retention, which eventually caused her life.
“The women could have been saved if she had been sent to the hospital within some few hours,” he emphasised. Dr France said the hospital referred a man with compound fracture on the hand to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, but the family decided to send him to a herbalist and was rush back to the hospital days later, when the hand was rotten.
The Medical Superintendent also asked mothers to be cautious when administering herbal preparations as enema to their children since it could damage their intestines and other vital organs. He said investigations had revealed that some herbal concoctions had led to unnecessary deaths in Winneba and surrounding communities. Dr France commended an unnamed philanthropist in Winneba for rehabilitating the hospital free of charge.
