Media workshop on Women’s Property Rights slated for April

A one day’s media workshop on women’s property and inheritance rights in the context of HIV and AIDS in Ghana, is scheduled for April.

It would be organised by the Peoples Dialogue on Human Settlement, a Non Government Organisation (NGO), on the theme: “The Role of the Media in Promoting Women’s Property and Inheritance Rights in the context of HIV and AIDS in Ghana”.

A statement issued in Accra by Salifu Abdul-Mujeeb Programme Officer of the NGO,and copied to the Ghana News Agency said, the workshop was designed to advance the protection of women’s property inheritance rights in the context of HIV and AIDS in the country.

“This is because women anywhere in the world, particularly, in developing countries, face multifaceted violations related to property and inheritance rights in the context of HIV and AIDS”.

The workshop with support from UN Women, would bring together about 20 participants from the various media houses throughout the country.

It is intended to bring the various actors within the media together to deliberate on women’s property and inheritance rights in the context of HIV and AIDS in Ghana, as well as to contribute, learn, share experiences from each other on the subject matter.

Moreover, it would develop concrete recommendations and strategies to promote women’s property and inheritance rights and forge a network to champion the cause of the subject matter.

It would provide an excellent learning opportunity as well as an avenue for the exchange of ideas among women‘s rights advocates and other actors in the society.

The NGO provides technical and strategic support to the urban poor and homeless to find sustainable solutions to their housing and poverty problems. It is an affiliate to the Shack and Slum Dwellers International.**
