Media should operate within the law – Boadu-Ayeboafo

Kumasi, Oct 26, GNA – Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo, General Manager, Newspapers, Graphic Communications Group, has reminded the media to operate strictly within the confines of the law as they helped to address ills in the society.

They should make sure they do not cross moral and ethical boundaries in the performance of their duties. Mr Boadu-Ayeboafo was speaking on “Media responsibility beyond the law” at a seminar organized by the Communications Department of the Christian Service University College (CSUC) in Kumasi. He said journalists should show more responsibility and not allow themselves to be used by any individual or group to prosecute self-serving agenda.

They must be ready to take responsibility for “things that they do” to ensure high standards of professionalism. The motivation should not be that of money or material gain, he said, noting that, the best reward for them is to have done a good job and be recognized for it. He was emphatic that the freedom of the media has got nothing to do with indiscipline and appealed to the general public to support the media to tackle the rot in society. Mr Seth Solomon Appiah, a lecturer at the Communications’ Department of the University, counseled journalists to be sure of their facts before they publish. Accuracy, fairness and objectivity, should be upheld at all times, he added.
