Media “frustrating” fight against corruption – Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has accused the media of frustrating the fight against corruption in the country.

According to him, the scenario where the media labels every public official as corrupt makes it difficult for genuinely minded officials to fight the canker.

“I have a problem with the way the media frustrates the fight against corruption in this country. They paint everybody as corrupt; even those who are fighting corruption.

“Now if you do that, you are weakening the resolve of those people who serious about fighting the menace. Because you (media) create the impression in the minds of the public and even the guilty ones that everyone is corrupt and so no one has the right to probe the other,” Nketia stated at an anti-corruption event in Accra Tuesday.

The comment follows an attack on the government’s resolve at fighting corruption by the President of the Central University College Professor Kwesi Yankah.

In the view of the university don, the Presidency has become a haven for corrupt public officials.

“When government appointees are cited for embezzlement or corruption, no machine is set in motion for investigation, prosecution and indictment.

“The transfer or promotion of bad nuts to the presidency rather than their demotion or indictment tends to defile the dignity of the presidency,” Prof. Yankah told the gathering in Accra.
