Media Foundation lauds Ghanaian media on election coverage

The Media Foundation for West Africa has applauded the media’s coverage of the just ended Presidential and parliamentary elections.
At a press conference at the Accra International press centre Thursday, Deputy Executive Director of the foundation, Suleimana Braimah said the media did a great job considering their exclusion from the special voting.
He says the media’s coverage contributed largely to the success of the process, adding that the media coverage drew attention to a lot of issues including the polling stations that had technical challenges, polling stations that lacked materials, presence or absence of security personnel among others.
The Deputy Director also commended the media for stopping all political advertisements as directed ahead of the elections. He was happy that uncertified results were tagged as such by most media houses.
He however felt the absence of delayed broadcast equipment was an issue and advised that tensed situations should not be reported live in future especially when broadcasters could not predict what a party was going to say.
