Media Commission settles complaint between Minister, Indepenpent

Accra, Aug. 8, GNA-The National Media Commission (NMC) on Tuesday settled a complaint between the Minister of Woman and Children Affairs, Hajia Alima Mahama and the Independent Newspaper.

A statement signed by Mr. Paul Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the Commission said the complaint was in relation to banner headline story by the paper ”Women’s Minister Snubs MPs” in which it was alleged that the Minister had walked out over her colleague MPS when questioned about the disbursement of the Women’s Development fund instituted by her Ministry.

In her claim, Hajia Mahama denied ever walking out on her colleagues but said she sought permission to leave for the 20th Anniversary of FIDA.

She also denied attending a UNESCO conference as stated in the publication.

Mr Edwin Arthur, who represented the Independent accepted the error and had since retracted the story and published apologies to the Minister.

The Commission has therefore called on the paper to cross-check their facts before publication.
