Media Asked To Project Welfare Of Children

Accra, June 20, – Dr Enchill Kofi Asare, National Co-ordinator, SOS Children’s Villages in Ghana, today appealed to the press to help create the right consciousness that will win the sympathy and financial support of Ghanaians for needy children. He said SOS villages have not been enjoying much support following the disintegration of Eastern Europe. There is, therefore, the need to raise local sponsorship to make the villages independent. Dr Asare who made the appeal at a press conference to commemorate the 11th international SOS Day in Accra, said a good and solid partnership with the press could help achieve the aims of SOS villages. The theme was ”Help us help needy children – Generating sponsorship in Ghana”. The day is celebrated to remind the world of the good works of Professor Hermann Gmeiner, founder of SOS villages in 1949 in Imst, Austria. In 1974, the first SOS Children’s Village in Ghana was established in Tema and over the years a total of 210 children have found home there. Forty adults have left the village.
