Media Analysts Group declares support for President Mills

Accra, May 18, GNA – Pressure group Media Analysts Group of Ghana (MAG) has declared its unflinching support for President John Evans Atta Mills to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2012 general elections. Mr Kwame Attachie, spokesperson and executive member of the Group, made the call at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday.

Mr Attachie said the achievements chalked by the NDC government led by President Mills within two years were clear for all to see. Some of the achievements include infrastructure development, such as roads and hospitals. These are in addition to free school uniforms, the payment of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) debt and the issue of schools under trees. Mr Attachie said the majority of their members, who were party delegates in the various constituencies across the country, had declared their support for the President. “It is an uncommon occurrence and often an unwise action that an achieving or a winning team would be changed in the process of performance.”

Mr Attachie gave the assurance that the President was a unifying factor for all Ghanaians, saying he believed most Ghanaians were ready to give him the mandate to achieve his Better Ghana Agenda. He cautioned the rank and file of the NDC to exercise restraint, especially in their choice of words when the need arose. Mr Mohammed Nurudeen Rashad, Chairman of the Media Analysts Group, said it was wrong for anyone in the party to contest a sitting President but the NDC believed in deepening intra-party democracy. “It is our conviction that the President is performing hence our support to rally behind him,” he stated. Mr Rashad stated that it was through the able leadership of the President that the party regained power in 2008 and they believed he could still win power for the party in 2012.
