Defending Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC preserved their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 season with a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Debibi United at Debibi Presby Park on Sunday.
Kofi Babil scored the only goal of the match in the 69th minute, securing all three points for the Tarkwa-based side. His decisive contribution earned him the NASCO Most Valuable Player award.
Medeama had arrived for Matchweek 5 without defeat, having collected two wins and two draws from their first four league matches. The champions had also recorded a 4-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars before beating fellow newcomers Port City FC 1-0 in their outstanding Matchday Two fixture.
The result extends Medeama’s positive opening to their title defence as they continue to build early momentum.
Debibi United, meanwhile, suffered another setback against experienced top-flight opposition during their first Ghana Premier League campaign. The newcomers began with a 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko, but then lost to Swedru All Blacks.
They responded with an impressive 3-0 victory over Young Apostles, before being beaten 2-1 away by FC AshantiGold in Matchweek 4.
Sunday’s defeat was particularly disappointing for Debibi because they had remained unbeaten at Debibi Presby Park before Medeama’s visit. They had scored five goals in their first two home league matches.
Medeama’s narrow success leaves the champions unbeaten as their defence of the league title gathers pace. Debibi United will now aim to respond in their next fixture.
